The Adirondacks

FINALLY....updating about the next part of our Canada/USA Road Trip.... It seems so long ago now.... Probably cos it was hahahahaha...

So we left Toronto first thing as we had a long long drive ahead of us to Saranac Lake and we had to be there by 3pm to check into the log cabin. The drive through Canada to the border was fine, went straight through the border....no queues ....

We were about 20 minutes from the border.... I (K) was driving and we saw a cop car coming towards us - Lala said "Make sure you aren't speeding the cops will pull you over for the slightest thing around somewhere like here cos they are bored".... Apparently ( though I don't think I did) I swerved just as he passed us.  I carried on driving and looked in the mirror only to see him turning his car round. I was like "OMG... He is turning round..... Then OMG he's put his flashing lights on and wants us to pull over".

As you can imagine, the pair of us were cacking our pants....seriously.... We got out the car he shouted "Get back in the car and wait". He came over and asked if we knew why we had been pulled over. I was shaking hahahahaha.... Apparently the inspection certificate on the car had expired!!!! We explained how it was a rental car and through Hertz and we had no idea which we didn't....it's not the sort of thing you check when you hire a car especially through a reputable company such as Hertz. He asked us soooooo many question, took our passports and car documents went back to his car and was making calls. He phoned Immigratiom to come out cos he didn't know what an ESTA was... So we had to wait and wait.... It was such a palava...it was sooooo hot too that day and I didn't dare start up the engine to put the aircon on incase he thought we were planning a getaway hahahaha...

Eventually Immigration arrived made a phone call and said we could go.... Phew!!! The cop said we may keep getting stopped and if we did to mention him,  Trooper D White of New York State Police. So we were on our way and arrived at Saranac Lake on time :)

Saranac Lake is in The Adirondack National Park. It's such a beautiful area - lots of forests, mountains, lakes....... We rented a log cabin by the lake.... Lake Colby. There were 3 cabins there - we stayed in Hideaway cabin. It was sooooo lovely.  The owner of Camp Colby Cabins Barbara, was just like an American version of Patsy off AB Fab..... She was funny.... Especially when the Canadian Geese kept pooping on the grass outside the cabins.... She built some strange looking contraption.... But the geese just either flew over it or crawled under it ......;)

Hideaway Cabin
The views from the cabin were spectacular.... especially the sunset.

One late afternoon we had a storm and the view afterwards was so so pretty

Also this beautiful Lunar Moth came to stay with us for a few days.

Apparently Lunar Moths are a symbol of spiritual transformation.  They signify rebirth and new beginnings and represent a continuing quest for truth and knowledge, gift of intuition, psychic perception and heightened awareness. Being so close to nature always brings us closer to our True Self.

There's lots and lots to do in the Adirondack area.... we did quite a lot during our week there. Here are some of the things we did :
We went up Whiteface Mountain which is the 5th highest mountain in NY State.... tho... the crazy thing is.... you can get an elevator to the top of it :) We took the elevator up but walked down.  The tunnel in the photo below leads to the lift.

We also went to High Falls Gorge which we both loved.

We did some crystal mining here which was fun. Love the Rose Quartz we found :)

Other places we visited included The Adirondack Museum

and The Wild Center which is a Natural History Museum

where there was also some lovely walking trails

we also went to Lake Placid

and The Indian Museum which we loved and now can't wait to go to the Navajo Nation in March

AND FINALLY our biggest adventure.... our walk in the Forest

where the pair of us managed to get lost.... we ended up going round and round in circles - always ending up at the same spot.... luckily there was a phone number on one of the maps and we we called the Forest Ranger who came out to rescue us.... hahahaha.... on his quad bike..... was a 20 min ride back out of the Forest..... we would never have found our way out.... we would still be there now hahahaha.....we were both panicking and getting so so bitten too...

We loved The Adirondacks and would definitely recommend it especially if you love walking and being close to Nature.

Next stop New York City.........

  1. Sounds like such an adventure! I would have peed my pants if I got pulled over by a cop. LOL And then to get lost in the forest! That trip would never be forgotten, which makes it that more fantastic. Love those pics, especially the ones after the storm.
